Candy Hearts Author! Thank you so much for agreeing to write something for me about one of these fandoms and pairings. I am beyond excited to see what you come up with. Below I have some general likes and dislikes, as well as a bit about why I like my requested ships. I've also offered a few ideas. The ideas are just that, if something I haven't thought of itches your brain just right, please write it! If you have fun writing, I know I'll have the best time reading!
I am also open to treats.
General Likes: character studies, scenes that slot somewhere within the canon and expand upon it, outsider POV, unreliable narrators/the way POV influences a story, non-linear narratives, intimacy in all its guises (domestic fic; doing the laundry together, really knowing someone else, healthy and unhealthy dependencies), messy/complicated/nuanced relationships (anything really intense, with a possessive they're-part-of-me-and-I'm-part-of-them dynamic), future fic, road trips, fake dating, sharing a bed, hurt/comfort, time loops, trapped in an elevator/enclosed space, AUs (lots of AUs! a good soulmate au -- sometimes that means two people who aren't soulmates saying fuck it and going all-in on each other, and sometimes it means your soulmate is Bad For You But You Don't Care, heist au, etc.), infidelity (my ships cheating with each other, not on each other), jealousy, being violent towards others on behalf of the one they love, media fics (incorporating fake tweets/reddit threads/articles), 5 Times/5 + 1 fics.
Sex Likes: oral sex, dirty talk, praise kink (good girl!), breeding kink, possessiveness (you're mine/i'm yours, hickeys/marking), overstimulation, frottage/grinding/thigh riding, hair pulling, breath play, mutual masturbation, semi-public sex, period sex, fun/laughter.
Do Not Wants: focus on pregnancy/getting pregnant, kid fic (focus on the characters having/raising children), gender swap, A/B/O, watersports/scat, ageplay, pegging, anal sex/rimming, noncon, bestiality, suicide (passing reference to it if it's canonical is fine), self-harm (canon-specific eating disorders or references are okay), Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones/fantasy AUs, unrequested non-canon gender & sexuality headcanons, unrequested polyamory, first person pov, second person pov.
BABYGIRL (2024)
I had an absolutely transcendent experiencing watching Babygirl. I cried three times! Each dance moment really got me: Romy feeling too uncomfortable to dance at the holiday party, the entire "Father Figure" montage, and the rave. I got full-body chills, goosebumps! I found the film so incredibly touching in its approach to Romy and her sexuality, exploring the insecurity and shame she felt, as well as allowing her to experience joy and pleasure. I especially loved that it had no interest in judging or punishing her for her sexual desires and her affair.
Her relationship with Samuel was interesting and delightful. The off-kilter banter resulted in some absolutely great humor - the turnaround of "you have seven minutes!" - and I thought their chemistry worked so, so well. I got the sense that they both had difficult pasts, and their sexual dynamic was mutually satisfying and healing. If you want to explore them through a sex scene (I use the word scene in the kink way, but works fic-wise, too), I would love that. Romy's embarrassment, Samuel's instruction, and then his affection. Humiliation and praise.
You could also explore why being submissive or dominant works for them. Samuel appears to have less shame about his sexuality, so do he and Romy ever have a conversation unpacking her feeling of being "disgusting?" Do they work through her shame through sex? Samuel asking Romy to hold him really spoke to me as well. I'm interesting in the comfort of taking power and giving it up on one's own terms.
My only issue with the film was the ending, where I didn't get a sense of how Romy and her husband worked through her affair and their sexual incompatibility, as well as Samuel being unceremoniously sent to Japan. If you want to change that, go for it! Maybe Romy and Samuel continue to "work" together to find emotional and sexual satisfaction - is it still secret, or is it now an approved arrangement? Maybe Romy visits him in Japan. Maybe they come across each other at a work event in the future. If they've been separated, what happens if they discover that they miss each other? As game as Jacob is at the end of the film, maybe Romy still finds their sex life lacking. If you have any other ideas, please go for it! Anything you write for Romy and Samuel and their specific dynamic is something I will love reading.
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (TV) (Daemon Targaryen/Rhaenyra Targaryen(HotD TV))
My favorite thing about House of the Dragon is the complicated way different characters and relationship parallel and contrast, as well as how a relationship cannot be separated from how other characters influence their dynamic. And my favorite relationship, by far, is the one between Daemon and Rhaenyra (and the specter of Viserys hanging over them). Rhaenyra verbalized it in season two - she wanted to be him and everything that he was, and he wanted to be her and have what she had, her father's trust and love. He "created her" and he resents her for it as much as he loves her and can't stop. Daemon is uncle and husband and warrior, and Rhaenyra is niece and wife and queen, and those categorization aren't simple or neat or easy (the power dynamics are contradictory!) (she'd love to be a warrior! In a way he's filling the traditional role of queen as king consort!).
My Do Not Wants say no Game of Thrones AUs, but I love the canon world of House of the Dragon and what its patriarchal hierarchy does for the storytelling and how it shapes and harms the characters, so please feel free to explore these two within canon. Give me Daemon and Rhaenyra navigating the power between the two of them. Dig into the repercussions and drama surrounding their hasty remarriage. Give me more harrenhal hauntings! Go sideways and have Daemon actually steal Rhaenyra away from her first wedding, or make him the father of her (first) bastard children!
If some sort of AU speaks to you, that's great, too! I find modern AUs really fun when they dig into the taboo and nastiness of the uncle/niece incest (not into making Daemon and Rhaenyra not related) and whatever world/business the Targaryens rule over. Social media fic where people are reacting in reddit threads? Yes! Do some sort of Stoker AU. Rhaenyra saying they were halves of a whole made me think of "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same," so go Wuthering Heights! A Bonnie and Clyde partner-in-crime thing would be great, or serial killers, or vampires!
Honestly, whatever you want to do with these two, as long as they're unable to detangled themselves, I will absolutely love.
THOROUGHBREDS (2017) (Amanda/Lily (Thoroughbreds))
I love Thoroughbreds so much! I think about it routinely, at least every other month! It's just so exactly my jam. I love Amanda and Lily and their nebulous and odd relationship. They used to be good friends -- the picture of them on their horses when they were younger! -- and then they lost touch, and now they're reconnecting at a time when neither of them really have anyone else.
I love the way the film plays with their obsession with each other, how throughout the movie Amanda sometimes wears something that reflects Lily's style and vice versa. They influence each other, but they never fully switch places or become each other. They can both be their truest (awful?) selves with each other, and they both lose that freedom in the end in different ways. When Lily told Amanda she drugged her drink and was planning on framing her for murder and Amanda chugged the screwdriver? I was clapping, cheering, kicking my feet and twirling my hair! That's love, baby! The original script makes me feel unhinged!
I would love anything that expands on them during the timeframe of the film, missing pieces or conversations between them. I want them to kiss! I'm into them fucking! For these two in particular I absolutely don't mind any sort of pain play or blood play. I would also love anything set after the movie: Maybe Lily visits Amanda, or maybe Amanda gets out and they run into each other somewhere.
As far as AUs for them, let them murder half of Connecticut! Serial Killer AU! Give them a Thelma & Louise or Bonnie & Clyde sort of road trip! Vampire AU or Cannibalism AU -- love as consumption! Amanda gave her life for Lily in the film, maybe some type of literalizing of that. Let Lily be haunted by Amanda, whether real or in her head. Haunting as a form of love! Anything creepy, dark and twisted here works for me.
MASTERS OF THE AIR (TV 2024) (Gale "Buck" Cleven/John Clarence "Bucky" Egan (Masters of the Air)
The relationship between Buck and Bucky was without a doubt my favorite thing about Masters of the Air, especially the tinge of sadness around it all. When you go to war with someone, and when you're both hours or minutes away from potential death, that has to be bonding and terrifying. Every moment matters! I like the idea of them as a unit, and I like that Bucky is such a ridiculous, extroverted showman while Gale is a more introverted, calm leader-type. I also love that Bucky seems to have all the vices of Buck's father. It makes me feel a little bit like screaming at the top of my lungs and running laps around my neighborhood, so if you want to dig into that, please do.
I am also completely obsessed with repression here. Yearning, unrequited longing, shame. That compounded with the closeness forged in war and the horror of war? Incredible! And because Bucky likes to drink, I am obsessed with drunken encounters that maybe he pretends didn't happen the next day, or maybe Gale genuinely does now know if Bucky remembers or not. In vino veritas! Drunken love confessions! Knowing the way to be together and also knowing it's impossible!
Maybe you explore their time in the stalag, trying to keep their morale up enough to survive, and the process of surviving in such disheartening conditions. Or maybe we see them post-war, dealing with PTSD or having separation anxiety. Maybe resentment when one of them seems to be doing better than the other, whether that's real or just an act. Kind of obsessed with the idea of Brokeback Mountain-ing them, whether that's a full AU or just the two of them meeting up once or twice a year to have an affair. The emotional devastation of that, each encounter so wonderful and increasingly painful. How hard it is to not have what you want/need all the time.
Anything you write about these two will be fantastic!
THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES - SUZANNE COLLINS (Lucy Gray Baird/Coriolanus Snow (BSS - Collins))
I absolutely loved reading about Lucy Gray and Coriolanus in the book (I also enjoyed them in the movie, so feel free to combine canons if you'd like), and I found their relationship so interesting. His narration was quite funny to me (Oh, no! They died of starvation! Let's get the Bread-esque passages; thinking it would be less painful for Grandma'am to be thrown out the window than live in a less savory part of the Capital), and the close third person perspective left a lot of wiggle room for understanding who Lucy Gray is and what their relationship was to her. I do believe there was genuine love on both sides, even if that love wasn't necessarily good or healthy.
I'm not interested in watering Coriolanus down or suddenly turning him into a good person who never does anything wrong, but I am interested in him making choices for Lucy Gray, just as I'm interested in choices Lucy Gray makes for him. I'm interested in Lucy Gray as a performer, victor, survivor -- the songbird and the snake. I was kicking my feet in glee when she wrote Coriolanus a song about how much she loves him after he shot Mayfair! That's neat! She's so fascinating!
For them, anything you want to write would be wonderful. Coriolanus stays in District 12? Cool! Lucy Gray stays in the Capital or ends up there? Awesome! Does she become his wife? His mistress? What happens if their time in the woods together is longer? Sex as a gateway into their relationship, who has power and who has control and how it manifests? Go for it!
I am very much not interested in connecting their story to the original trilogy and Katniss, and I am very much not interested in Lucy Gray having a full, happy, loving relationship with someone else. For both of them, I am interested in each other really being it.
Feel free to put them somewhere else, too: Send them on a heist, Bonnie and Clyde them, stick them in a haunted house literally or metaphorically (maybe Lucy Gray is a ghost haunting him!), Pretty Woman? Anything else you can think of! I'm sure whatever you come up with will absolutely delight me.
Thanks again for creating something for me! I know it'll be fantastic! I'm perfectlystill on AO3, perfectlystill on Letterboxd, and saoirseegot on the app formerly known as Twitter.
I am also open to treats.
