Candy Hearts Exchange 2024

Candy Hearts Author, I want to thank you for agreeing to write a story for me in any of these fandoms. I am doing metaphorical cartwheels at the thought! Below I've written a little bit about how I feel about each of these pairings and what I enjoy about them, as well as offered some ideas for what you could explore. Please do not feel beholden to my ideas, they're truly just a jumping off point, so if you have another angle that excites you, go for it! If you have fun writing, then I know I'll have the best time reading.
I requested fanfiction for each, and I am open to treats!
General Likes: character studies, slice-of-life, scenes that slot somewhere within the canon and expand upon it, outsider POV, unreliable narrators/the way POV influences a story, non-linear narratives, intimacy in all its guises (domestic fic; doing the laundry together, really knowing someone else, healthy and unhealthy dependencies), messy/complicated/nuanced relationships (anything really intense, with a possessive they're-part-of-me-and-I'm-part-of-them dynamic), future fic, road trips, fake dating, sharing a bed, hurt/comfort, time loops, trapped in an elevator/enclosed space, AUs (lots of AUs! a good soulmate au -- sometimes that means two people who aren't soulmates saying fuck it and going all-in on each other, and sometimes it means your soulmate is Bad For You But You Don't Care, heist au, etc.), infidelity (my ships cheating with each other, not on each other), jealousy, being violent towards others on behalf of the one they love, media fics, 5 Times/5 + 1 fics.
Sex Likes: oral sex, dirty talk, praise kink (good girl!), possessiveness (you're mine/i'm yours, hickeys/marking), overstimulation, frottage/grinding/thigh riding, hair pulling, breath play, mutual masturbation, semi-public sex, fun/laughter.
Do Not Wants: pregnancy, kid fic (focus on the characters having/raising children), gender swap, A/B/O, watersports/scat, daddy kink/mommy kink, ageplay, BDSM, pegging, anal sex/rimming, noncon, bestiality, suicide (passing reference to it if it's canonical is fine), self-harm (canon-specific eating disorders or references are okay), Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones/fantasy AUs, unrequested non-canon gender & sexuality headcanons, unrequested polyamory, first person pov, second person pov.
THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES - SUZANNE COLLINS (Lucy Gray Baird/Coriolanus Snow (Collins))
I absolutely loved reading about Lucy Gray and Coriolanus in the book (I also enjoyed them in the movie, so feel free to combine canons if you'd like), and I found their relationship so interesting. His narration was quite funny to me (Oh, no! They died of starvation! Let's get the Bread-esque passages; thinking it would be less painful for Grandma'am to be thrown out the window than live in a less savory part of the Capital), and the close third person perspective left a lot of wiggle room for understanding who Lucy Gray is and what their relationship was to her. I do believe there was genuine love on both sides, even if that love wasn't necessarily good or healthy.
I'm not interested in watering Coriolanus down or suddenly turning him into a good person who never does anything wrong, but I am interested in him making choices for Lucy Gray, just as I'm interested in choices Lucy Gray makes for him. I'm interested in Lucy Gray as a performer, victor, survivor -- the songbird and the snake. I was kicking my feet in glee when she wrote Coriolanus a song about how much she loves him after he shot Mayfair! That's neat! She's so fascinating!
For them, anything you want to write would be wonderful. Coriolanus stays in District 12? Cool! Lucy Gray stays in the Capital or ends up there? Awesome! Does she become his wife? His mistress? What happens if their time in the woods together is longer? Sex as a gateway into their relationship, who has power and who has control and how it manifests? Go for it!
I am very much not interested in connecting their story to the original trilogy and Katniss, and I am very much not interested in Lucy gray having a full, happy, loving relationship with someone else. For both of them, I am interested in each other really being it.
Feel free to put them somewhere else, too: Send them on a heist, Bonnie and Clyde them, stick them in a haunted house literally or metaphorically (maybe Lucy Gray is a ghost haunting him!), Pretty Woman? Anything else you can think of! I'm sure whatever you come up with will absolutely delight me.
SANCTUARY (2022) (Rebecca Marin/Hal Porterfield (Sanctuary 2022))
[Available on Hulu in the US]
Sanctuary was one of the most surprisingly delightful movie experiences I had last year. I didn't know what to expect going into it, but I absolutely loved it. A screwball romcom disguised as an erotic thriller! Absolutely obsessed with the power play between Hal and Rebecca and his desire to make her happy. The way her jealousy slowly comes through when she thinks he's talking to a girlfriend or fiancée, and then her relief and delight when she learns it's his mom! How much Hal respects Rebecca and genuinely appreciates their time together -- the absolutely annoying room service order that was half for her! Buying her a watch and really, really wanting her to like it! Everything about the movie makes me feel so, so nuts!
Would love fic that explores any of their sessions (feel free to get really weird here, if you want), whether it's set before the film or something they still engage in after the film ends because they find it scratches an itch for both of them. She tells him what to do, degrades him, and he loves it. I would also love to see them navigating their newfound relationship where Rebecca goes to work and Hal takes care of her in every way. What does that look like for them? Is there a learning curve? Does she have the energy to be judgmental and then tell him he did a good job? What happens if she doesn't?
I loved the actual sex scene between them -- knife to his throat! How her happiness is the most important thing to him! Give me more of that. Some pain play, some vague threats, dirty talk and Rebecca telling Hal exactly what she thinks of him! They both seem to have a breeding kink, and I love that!
Would be delighted by a media-style fic where people are reacting to the fact that Hal bought out the company and named Rebecca CEO -- Who is she? How do they know each other? The gossip, the tabloids, the reddit threads! The tweets! How does his mom react? How does her ex-fiancé react? -- Speaking of, did he have any idea she was checking our of their relationship? Would be so fun!
For this fandom, I would prefer to focus on the actual canon universe in some capacity, but beyond that, go wild!
THE AMERICANS (TV 2013) (Elizabeth Jennings/Philip Jennings | Clark Westerfeld)
[Available on Hulu in the US]
I love how nuanced and complex Elizabeth and Philip's relationship is. It's such a real and deep exploration of marriage, the ebb and flow of how they feel about each other, and ultimately, the loyalty and love that underpins it all. Anything exploring that would be amazing.
For these two, the canon is so rich that I would love anything that explores it. A character study about either Elizabeth or Philip - expanding on their life in the Soviet Union, their training with the KGB, the early years of their time together in the US, any moment that slots into canon, or their time in Russia when we leave them. I'm really interested in the two of them learning to live with each other, both at the start of their relationship in America, and after they leave Henry and Paige in the finale (and everything in the middle). When all they have is each other, and they've been partners for so long that they don't know how to be anything else. But their lives are so drastically post-canon, as is the home they left years ago and have now returned to. Settling into their new normal has to be weird and difficult.
I also think there are trope -y things you could do, if you wanted: trap them in an elevator at any time in their relationship! Hurt/Comfort! Amnesia! I also think the show does a great job with the push/pull of sex between them. The perfunctory nature of it when they conceive Paige and Henry, when that changes in the pilot, and how it evolves from there to be about an emotional connection - which has its ups and downs - and trust. Exploring how that changes for them over the years would be great, too.
THE BEAR (TV 2022) (Sydney Adamu/Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (The Bear))
[Available on Hulu in the US]
I really love this show, and I especially love Sydney and Carmy and their dynamic. I love the respect between them, and I'm so interested in the two of them being partners, the ups and downs, the needing to depend on each other, when that works and when that goes wrong. The sign language "I'm sorry" makes me feel feral, and yet it's just a band aid! They're not tending the wound! Maybe they do start to discuss their issues, really work through their communication issues!
I would also love the two of them hooking up as stress relief! Exploring how that complicates their relationship, or maybe it doesn't. Or maybe they act married and don't even notice it, but everyone else does. A fic that shows Carmy and Sydney's relationship from other POVs would be really, really great, too. How does Richie, Tina, Marcus, Natalie, Claire, etc. see them? Speaking of Claire: Infidelity (Carmy and Sydney as the cheaters), whether emotional and/or physical is my jam!
The nourishing nature of food and cooking for another person could be great to explore here. If you know a lot about cooking or food, feel free to go wild! Competency kink could be really, really great. Maybe Sydney tells Carmy the best meal she ever had was his! Because that detail in season one made me feel like I had to go do cartwheels down the street! Maybe she doesn't tell him that, and she cooks something for him, and it ends up being the best thing Carmy's ever eaten!
For this fandom I would prefer you stay relatively close to the canon (still chefs, maybe meeting another time/place/way) versus veering off too far into AU territory, but I could see some kind of time loop being fun here, maybe the day their preorders go live! Or maybe they get locked in the freezer together this time! Or the pantry! Honestly, anything exploring their relationship will be fantastic.
Thanks again for creating something for me! I know it'll be amazing! I'm perfectlystill on AO3, perfectlystill on Letterboxd, and dkaluuyaegot on the app formerly known as Twitter.
